Mrs. Chafin and family ... I was so sad and sorry were I heard of John's passing ! He was always the nicest young man and it carried on throughout his life ! The last time I saw John we had Jury duty together and we got most the day to be able to sit and talk (we didn't get chose for the Jury, but were some of the last four people to leave ! It was great getting a chance to talk with him after so many years of him working and raising a family in North County and me being out of the area ! I really feel for his girls because I know it's hard to lose your father at any age , especially when he was one of the nicest people around ! I remember calling You mrs. Chafin and getting John's address and phone number for one of "our" classmates a number of years back ... I was very Happy to find out that You were still watching over your small clan of grown up children ... by the way You did a very good job with all of them but especially with John ... he was just a nice guy from the day I met him at Fremont school and was always nice enough to invite me to come around the corner to your families house ... He will be sorely missed by many ... he was an athlete, a nice guy and a real "Tiger" when it came to SLO High School ... I wish he lived a bit closer than Gold beach because I would Love to go to his celebration of his life and see the rest of the family ... please know that John was liked by everyone and he was a very good representative of what a man should act like and how to be a good friend ... that would always help You in your time of need ! R.I.P. John may you find peace in heaven sitting at the right side of God ! God Bless your family and I would like to wish them my condolence's to You Mrs. Chafin and to his other siblings and to his Girls including our other special classmate Thelma .... I am truly sorry for all your families loss with the passing of such a great person as John !!

On behalf of the San Luis Obispo High School Class of 1966, I send our condolences! John was a terrific guy and a great athlete. Everyone loved John! Sadly, he now has joined a growing number of "The Tigers of '66," but he will always remain in our hearts! A light that shines as brightly as John's, does not go out forever!
Rest in Peace, Mighty Tiger! Let them hear you roar! God Bless all his family (with a special hug to Thelma, also from our great class)!

I was so grateful for the chance to know the Chafin family when I taught Kindergarten in Templeton many years ago.
It was a great pleasure to have known John at that time, as he gave such a great gift to the Templeton Thinklet Tank, when he took it upon himself to completely carpet the upstairs of the preschool, as the preschool was struggling to keep the doors open in those lean years. We were so appreciative of his dedication and help. Our prayers and sympathy go out to the 3 girls, Hope, Summer and Sky, and all the family and extended families of John.
