UNCLE LEE WAS A JAMES DEAN LOOKALIKE.I SAY THIS BECAUSE YOU GOTTA SEE HIM IN HIS T-SHIRT, JEANS AND FIT BODY IN MY FATHERS EARLY 60S FILMS.HE ,UNCLE CURT AND MY FATHER BUD SAW THEMSELVES AS KINDA LIKE DESIGNERS OF MADONNA INN [BUILT 1957] AND TRANSFORMED OUR BACKYARDS INTO GLORIOUS ARTISTIC CEMENTED ROCK BORDERED GARDENS OVERFLOWING WITH FLOWERS.THEY EVEN LAYED DOWN AUTOMATIC WATERING SYSTEM WONDERLANDS THAT WE COUSINS ROMPED AROUND IN TILL EXHAUSTED. I THINK UNCLE LEE WAS THE FIRST ONE TO MAKE THE PATIO INTO A EXTRA SPRAWLING ROOM. HE WOULD DO ANYTHING TO PLEASE AUNT LAVINA AND I CAN STILL HEAR HIM CALLING HER ANGEL WITH AN INFLECTION AT THE END AS IF TO CONSTANTLY BE SEEKING HER SWEET APPROVAL. I REMEMBER THAT ROOM HALFWAY DONE AND FEELING LIKE A GLAMOROUS VERSION OF GREEN ACRES [TV SHOW]. WE WATCHED CARTOONS ON TV WITH A OPEN BACKYARD JUST SITTING THERE-HEAVEN TO A KID.GOING TO THE HOLDERS WAS ONLY SECOND TO DISNEYLAND AND ME AND DARRELL MADE NO WASTE OF TIME IN JUMPING ON BIKES AND GOING TO THE STORE TO BUY 45 RECORDS FOR 49 CENTS. FIRST RECORD?-SUGAR SUGAR BY THE ARCHIES, 1969.THE REAL KICKER WAS WHEN UNCLE LEE GAVE ME REAMS OF MULTICOLORED TELEPHONE WIRE WHICH I TOOK AND WRAPPED AROUND ITSELF TO MAKE SOME PRETTY COOL RINGS OUT OF OH YEAH, I WAS THE KING OF RINGS WHEN I WENT BACK HOME TO ARROYO GRANDE, TO THINK THAT AN ATHLETIC KOREAN WAR VET WOULD INDULGE A SMALL ARTISTIC BOY LIKE ME SHOWED THE KIND OF CURIOSITY AND PATIENCE HE HAD.I NEVER SAW RAW GOODS THE SAME WAY AFTER THAT AND LEARNED HOW TO BE RESOURCEFUL RIGHT THEN AND THERE.IT REALLY MADE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN HOW I LOOKED AT MYSELF, A CONFIDENCE BUILDER.HE SEEMED TO TAKE A REAL INTEREST IN YOU AND KIND OF FOLLOWED ME THROUGH THE YEARS ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT COLLEGE AND MY INTERESTS. OH LORD ITS A YEAR NOW AND IT STILL HURTS.HE LEFT BEHIND AN INCREDIBLE FAMILY WHICH I TRULY MISS.IS HE PITCHING IN HEAVEN? AUNT LAVINA I REALLY HAVE ENJOYED AND CHERISH THE STORIES YOU HAVE TOLD ME ABOUT YOUR CHILDHOOD. I HOPE YOU ARE DOING WELL BECAUSE I KNOW THAT SO FEW END UP WITH A TRUE LOVE LIKE YOU HAVE HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON LOVE CLINT

Lee and I attended San Luis Obispo Jr. College in 1956. We played on
the basketball team together and for a year, ran around together. Lee was
a very nice guy and I really enjoyed our friendship. After that year, we both
went our own ways to establish what we were going to do in life. I went to art college in Los Angeles for four years. Since that time, I searched for Lee trying to find out were he was now located. I did know that he married LaVina and knew it was a happy marriage. I just wished that I could have found him years ago, when I first started looking for him. I had no idea that he and his family were in Santa Barbara. It was so sad for me to see his name on the obituary page. Over the years, I would search on the internet hoping to find his name and location. As I mentioned, he was a fine man and had much to offer. It sadness me to
hear of his family's lost. I bet he was a terrific husband and father and my sincere condolences to his family.

Uncle Lee will be greatly missed, as he was a great Uncle to me and my family. I felt like I was right at home when I went to Aunt LaVina and Uncle Lee’s. I will never forget the hug the smile and what looked like a tear in his eye when he looked at me and said, “How you doing Galo”? I know angels met him and received him the minute he left us here. I pray the entire Holder family remain strong and carry on what he started ~ a great family ~. Life will forever be changed without Uncle Lee, and I think I can say that for ALL of us that knew and loved him. We love and miss you!! Special Hugs and Kisses to Aunt LaVina, Darrell, Dennis, and Kendra. Love You!!

LaVina & Family:
What a beautiful send off to a truly gentle man. I have had the utmost admiration for Lee. He was kind and gentle and a man of integrity. We all were so blessed to have had him in our lives. You all have your own angel looking over you. Rest in peace dear friend, you will be greatly missed!
