Maureen Clancy Obituary

Maureen Bernadette Clancy, 53, passed away Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014. Maureen, or affectionately known as "Mo," was born to the late Michael and Theresa Clancy at St. Vincent's Hospital in October 1960 in Los Angeles, Calif. Mo graduated Glendale High School and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix. She worked over 25 years in physical therapy, mainly in Arizona. The past 11 years, she had worked in physical therapy at Arroyo Grande Hospital and Central Coast Home Health. Mo was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2006. That same year, she managed to fall in love, renovate a home, and in 2007, successfully ran the Boston Marathon. Just a small example of her personal strength and determination to conquer her goals no matter what life brings you. In the fall of 2007, Mo married the man of her dreams, Seamus, at a castle on the West Coast of Ireland. A piece of Mo's heart will always be in Ireland, where she and Seamus often traveled to visit family and friends. Over the past eight years, Mo worked diligently with the "Turn Up The Volume" on Ovarian Cancer Foundation. She worked with the foundation to raise awareness and educate our local Central Coast Community about ovarian cancer. She lived to help others and will forever be remembered as a strong-willed, loving, and passionate person. Mo is survived by her loving husband, Seamus Burns; brother, Greg Clancy; family in Canada, Ireland, and the United States; as well as countless dear friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Los Osos Valley Mortuary Chapel, 2260 Los Osos Valley Road in Los Osos. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Bello St. in Pismo Beach, with a graveside committal immediately following at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park. Not sure what to say?

Glad to have known Maureen as an Eight-year classmate at Holy Trinity School in Los Angeles. She was quiet, gutsy yet very sweet. She was the best Volleyball player (bettering males and females). Her stellar character added greatly to our class' success. She was brought up among friends lately, and we all greatly miss her. She is Heaven's champion now!

There are no words to express how sad I am about Mo. I can only begin to imagine how you are feeling. Please know that Lee and I are here, we are close, and we are willing to be here for you for whatever you need. I am still in treatment and am sad that I cannot make the service, but Lee is coming for both of us. We loved her so very much, and we love you too. Please do not hesitate to call for any reason!

Mo's spirit and smile lit up a room! I had the privilege of working with her at Arroyo Grande Hospital. The patient's loved her and so did the staff. God Bless. Mary Lou Ross and family.
