Although, many of the students who were fortunate to have Mr Phillips as an instructor, may not yet know of his passing or have not been able to comment here, I believe all would agree that he had a memorable and positive impact on all us who were hungry to learn and he fed us well!
He filled up the black board with his knowledge so fast that we could scarcely copy it before he was erasing and filling it up again. He seemed to know everything and enthusiastically did his best to share it with us. We often times affectionately referred to him as "Mr.UBC".
His life was not wasted. His legacy lives on in each of his students.
Our prayers are with his family.
Respectfully,
Richard Foley, SE

Dear Joy, Janet and Aaron,
When I first started teaching at Cal Poly, Bill was very helpful in showing me the ropes and helping me manage "academic politics". I was a real greenhorn at that time. Bill remained a helpful friend throughout my career at Cal Poly. He will be missed.

'Mr. Phillips', Joy & Family,
You and that Special Team of Colleagues assembled by George Hasslein, helped positively shape countless careers. More importantly, you shaped countless lives by your example.
You taught us the value of hard work, honesty and focused tenacity.
We are ALL much better for the personal & professional impact you had upon our lives.

David R. Cartnal, FAIA. Class of '65'

Dear Phillips Family,
I was a student of Mr. Phillips in the early 60's along with many of my '65 graduating class. It is with great sadness to hear of Mr. Phillips passing but a memory of him will remain forever. My condolences to the family as I will not be able to attend his Memorial service. I concur with the many excellent words that have been shared by my classmates.

See you in Heaven Mr. Phillips.
