I was stunned to see that Grant passed away on Wednesday. Seeing his photo brought back decades of our relationship, as colleagues and friends. I came to UAlbany in 1965 as Associate Dean of Students and, when he arrived a few years later, we hit it off well and developed a personal relationship. Albany was in the early years of becoming a University in the 1960s and Grant brought a wealth of experience that would strengthen the institution's image and also establish its communications - internally and externally. He put together a team of professionals - writers and a seasoned photographer along with others with media experience. He reached out to the academic departments so they would know that this "new" design technology was available to them to bolster their teaching and broader communication.

He was highly regarded by faculty and those of us in administration. He reached out to bring some students who were interested in these related fields into his newly formed division so they would receive experience. The Educational Communications Center expanded over the years and was the foundation of what is now the University's Department of Communications and Marketing with several sub-units. My deepest condolences to Martha and his children. He will always be remembered.
