Funeral services will be on Friday, April 8, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Herbert Bugner Masteller, age 82 of St. Cloud, MN who died on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Reverend Mike Tix, well known to the family, will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be at the Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery at Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at St. Michael's Catholic Church. Military rites will be conducted outside the church by V.F.W. Granite Post 428 and the Minnesota National Guard both of St. Cloud.
Herb was born on April 14, 1933 at Faulkton, SD the son of George and Martha (Bugner) Masteller. At the age of three he moved with his family to the Hasty, MN area where he grew up on a farm. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1950. He then enlisted into the United States Air Force. He served his country for 20½ years, serving in the Korean War working in the Air Defense Command both in Korea and stateside. He retired with full honors having attained the rank of Chief Master Sargent.
Herb was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Degree on June 26, 1954 in St. Cloud, MN. Three children were born to this union. After Herb retired from the Air Force, he moved with his family to St. Cloud, where he worked as an accountant until his retirement in 1996. Herb and Phyllis enjoyed spending many years in Arizona during the winter months and also traveling in their motor home and camping. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, and watching the Vikings and Twins.
He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and V.F.W. Granite Post #428 both of St. Cloud and also the Catholic Order of Foresters.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son George and his brother Vern Masteller.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Phyllis of St. Cloud, daughters Barbara (Jim) Trewick of Sauk Rapids, MN and Georgine (Tim) Malone of Lakeville, MN, and daughter-in-law Sandi Masteller of Apple Valley, MN, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, sister Arlys Gamble of Maple Grove, MN, and many other relatives and friends.
