Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley for Marie S. Thielen, age 89, who passed away Tuesday at Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. Rev. Aaron Nett and Marie's grandson Rev. Luke Thielen will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 9:00-10:30 a.m. Saturday at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. Christian Women and Daughters of Isabella will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. and parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Eden Valley.
Marie was born Sept. 28, 1927 in Eden Valley to John & Anna (Buechele) Bauer. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1945. Marie married Alphonse "Al" Thielen on Oct. 14, 1947 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. They farmed near Eden Valley until moving to town in 1998. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church, Christian Women Society, and Daughters of Isabella. She was also a member of the Meeker County Home Extension Group. Marie enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning, crocheting doilies, embroidery, and especially spending time with all her grandchildren. She made afghans for each grandchild when they graduated and also made baby quilts and marriage quilts. Marie was a kind, hardworking, thoughtful, loving, caring person with a strong faith.
Survivors include her sons and daughter, James (Jan) of Richmond, Daniel (Diane) of Eden Valley, Thomas (Esther) of Quinter, KS, Gregory (Brenda) of Eden Valley and Linda (Mark) Ruhland of Eden Valley; sister, Helen Florence of New Prague; 20 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alphonse "Al" on May 24, 2016; grandson, Jeff Thielen; great grandchildren, James Ashfeld and Liam Czech; brothers, Elmer and Herbie Bauer; and sister, Lorraine Henfling.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
