Lawrence Lenarz Obituary

Lawrence Rudolph Lenarz

Omaha, NE

St. Cloud

Apr 23, 1924 - Jul 2, 2017

Larry was born on April 23, 1924 in St. Cloud, Minnesota and died on July 2, 2017 in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his twin brother, Jimmy, were the youngest of eight children born to Aloysius 'Aloys' C. Lenarz and Sophia Martha Lenarz (Hofmann.)

Larry grew up in St. Cloud a stone's throw from the Mississippi River, the site of many childhood adventures. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1942. Soon after, he interrupted his college studies, and joined the Navy. During his enlistment, he served as a Radioman aboard USS Howard W. Gilmore, a submarine tender in the Pacific Ocean. After the war, he returned to school and earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. A few years later, while teaching at Arthur Murray Dance Studio, a young woman danced her way into his heart. He and Marye Evelyn Fitzpatrick were married, raised six children, and lived in many places including Minnesota, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and California. When Marye died in 2003, they had shared a wonderful life together.

Larry loved life. Wherever he went, he brought merriment with him - eyes twinkling as he spun a tall tale, crooned a song, danced a jig, or poured you a scotch.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his grandson, Jeremy Lenarz; three brothers, Leander J. Lenarz, Reverend Bernard J. Lenarz, and David A. Lenarz; two sisters, Ruth A. Schroeder and Majorie A. Nelson; and son-in-law, Jay Gilbert. He is survived by his children: Dianne Gilbert with children Daniel (Teresa) and children Elise, Rose, Timothy, and Sally Whipple (Scott) and sons Benjamin, Samuel; Kathleen Keil with children Nicolas (Jennifer) and son Alexander, and Colleen McCurdy (Matthew) and daughters Madeline, Mya; Laura and William Shiffermiller with children Jason (Abby) and son Arthur, Matthew, Alexander (Courtney) and son Tristan, and Anne; Robert and Chantal Lenarz with children Julia Reeves (Evan) and children Evan, Mary, and Amanda Breitinger (Michael) and children Jacob, Ellie; Patrick and Roberta Lenarz with children Andrew (Laurel) and sons Hunter, Dawson, and Lorrin; Michael Lenarz with daughter Jennifer Lenarz-Salcedo and children Kahlan, Rowan. He is also survived by his twin brother, James A. Lenarz; his sister, Elizabeth Ring; and his beloved canine buddies, Bobby and Cocoa.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 5th from 5pm to 7pm, with a time to share memories beginning at 6:30pm, all at the Bel Air Chapel, 12100 West Center Rd. in Omaha.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Augustine Indian Mission, PO Box GG, 1 Mission Road South, Winnebago, NE 68071 or to your favorite charity.

We are deeply saddened at Kerotest Manufacturing Corp. to learn about the passing of Larry Lenarz. Larry was our Chairman of the Board and dedicated 43 years of service to Kerotest. He's made countless contributions to the company, but most notable is he founded our Employee Stock Ownership Program in 1983. Since then, employees and the company alike have benefited greatly and will continue to. Larry's vision and insight made him an outstanding leader. His spirit and concern for the employees will forever be present. We are reminded everyday by a plaque dedicated to him in our lobby and he is mentioned in every Employee Owner Shareholder meeting. He was highly respected by the entire company and will be sadly missed. Thank you for everything Larry.
