IT WAS OUR PRIVILEGE AND PLEASURE TO KNOW NAOMIE AND DOUG.

DEEPEST SYMPATHY,
JUDY & R.V. STUCKEY
February 3, 2017
I knew Doug and Naomi as a friend of Betsy Freitag. I remember how kind and loving and considerate Doug and Naomi were with each other. And this seemed to extend to whoever else they happened to be with. They were so supportive of Betsy as an old friend whose common memories they remembered and treasured.
They had this wonderful habit of Sunday evenings at Anthony's at Shilshole, enjoying a glass of wine and talking and laughing.

DON AND I MET NAOMI AND DOUG WHEN REID AND MELINDA POWERS WITH 2 YOUNG SONS MOVED NEXT DOOR. MELINDA IS DON'S DAUGHTER. WHEN DOUG AND WE RETIRED, A GROUP OF 6 WAS FORMED, "THE BEACH BUNCH". DOUG WOUD RENT A VAN, AND HE, NAOMI, MARGARET POWERS, BETSY, AND DON AND I WOULD TAKE 3-DAY TRIPS TO PLACES LIKE CANNON BEACH, KALALOCH, AND THE LONG BEACH PENINSULA AT THE MOUTH OF COLUMBIA RIVER. WE VISITED IN EACH OTHERS HOMES; TOOK THE TRAIN FROM EDMONDS TO VANCOUVER, B.C. TO SEE "SHOW BOAT" AND SPENT SEVERAL NIGHTS EXPLORING. WE SO ENJOYED DOUG HERE AT ALJOYA. HE AND DON HAD A BONDING RELATIONSHIP: BOTH HAD SEVERE HEARING LOSS, WOULD VISIT IN EACH OTHER'S APARTMENTS AND COULD TALK AS LOUD AS NEEDED AS THEY ENJOYED A BEER. OUR DEAR FRIEND DOUG WILL BE SO MISSED.

Within Doug's long life, our memories of him fit into his Naples Boeing assignment in 1979-80. Our family was younger than his and Naomie's, so we heard lots of joyful news of their children emerging into careers and their grandchildren being born. Doug's warmth and inclusiveness and fun-loving spirit impressed us, and always made us feel welcome.
We are currently out of town and unfortunately unable to attend his celebration memorial.

Sincerely, Al and Barbara Umphenour
