I was reading my husband's UW alum magazine and came across an obituary notice for John -- and also learned that his lovely wife, Connie, died earlier this year. The news immediately conjured up so many memories because as a very recent college grad, I worked part-time for John in the UW Office of Risk Management for about three years. He was such a great boss -- smart, kind, patient, and funny. And oh, how he and Connie loved each other -- even I, as a dumb 24-year-old, could see that theirs was a match made in heaven. I'm grateful to have known him.

I am so sad to learn of John's passing. I think there is something special and unique about friendships formed during youth. I am remembering student government in school, dances, music, parties shared with friends. Moments and memories last a lifetime, and I treasure them. You left too soon, John. May you be forever in peace.

I've known John for 60 years, I considered him to be my closest friend, we shared many great times together and entertained each other in our homes. I appreciate the time we had together, his last few months were difficult for him, he had come to deal with his diagnosis and while the ALS took him too soon it is comforting to know he had a plan in place to deal with it. I will miss you John. - Jim
