I will never forget meeting Lori our kids' first day of preschool over 10 years ago. Our kids were both crying (they were 2 1/2 and our only children) so we we were both distraught. I remember noticing her presence as she was so beautiful and stoic and yet sweet - She had impacted me. Our kids imprinted equally- and they would eventually only attend school if they knew the other would be present. We had our first parent/child play date and it sealed our connection, we bonded like sisters and years of family togetherness, laughter, and love would follow. Lori not only became like a sister to me, but a mother to eventually my 2 children. She created such amazing memories for us. We shared so much time with them at Whidbey- looking for heart rocks, eating chicken in a door (so many inside jokes), our fire talks, our dance parties, our sharing of music and stories, our hot tub laughs, our boating failures, our times with Nana there, our baby island adventures, the many scars my son has of hard playing, to just pure joy. She, with B, provided such an amazing childhood for my kids as Lori and I shared so many joyous times. We always said, It was the best of times, and the worst of times dealing with small children. Lori changed the way I view the world as she saw art in everything- making even the mundane magical. We called each other D as in Daryl and my other cousin Daryl, because we had so many adventures and had so much fun doing life together. When I'd say Let's followed by this long monologue- she laughed and said you had me at let's. She is forever in our hearts - I have all her talented artwork or artwork she chose for us throughout my house - so her presence is always felt. Love you unconditionally D and live in gratitude for all you given to me and my family .

I met Lori through our mutual friend Tina almost a decade ago. I felt fortunate to be among those that got invited to Lori and Byron's home for a dinner party. They had just acquired a brick-pizza-oven in their backyard and I remember that she so graciously gave me a home tour, showed me how she creates her encaustic art and I was inspired by the creative way she stores her earrings. Genius!

Since then I have had an opportunity to watch her creativity in action through her art and through the many school projects she has done for Camber. I have no doubt that she was a Pinterest Queen based on all her creations. Such a beautiful light lost way too early. My heart breaks for her family and close friends, she will be missed dearly, but her amazing creations will keep reminding us of her.
