Ron had an uncommon kindness and gentle nature. I remember when I first met him, I was just starting out as a Philosophy professor at Pierce, 3 yrs ago. At our first department meeting, I walked in super nervously and everyone was distracted with getting the equipment to work. I must have looked lost because Ron turned around and smiled and softly introduced himself and did everything he could to make me feel welcome and at ease. It worked! I was lucky enough to work with him for the next 2 years on the Curriculum Rigor Committee, where I was able to witness the sincere appreciation he had for everyone's contributions - even the way he expressed gratitude for my having taken meeting minutes made me feel like gold. The world has lost an incredibly special person. I will miss you, Ron...and I'll aspire to be more like you.

Ron,

My heart is aching right now. You were one of my favorite colleagues, and I had so much respect for you as a teacher. You were a listener, an intellect, you shared funny stories, and we helped each other out. We spent much time talking politics and religion. I guest spoke in your college success classes, and you interviewed students for me. You were more than a colleague, you were a dear friend.

I was impressed by your courageous fight, and I always expected your strong spirit to carry you through the illness and win. The Lord had other plans for you, and now all of God's kingdom is rejoicing as they receive a new brother.

You will be missed, my friend, and remembered fondly for all the wonderful times shared as colleagues and friends.

I have heard it said that one of the ways you can measure a person's true character is by the way they treat others. I first met Ron when I was a publisher's (book) rep for Pierce College. While most instructors viewed my role as a nuisance, Ron was always friendly and respectful. Later when I became a teaching colleague at Pierce, we shared some good stories and kinds words. The point was that he treated me exactly the same when I was a salesperson and when I was a colleague. That example of Ron's humility and love for all will always stick with me. Blessings and peace to his family during this time.

Dr. Schwartz was a great Professor I had the pleasure of taking his English 101 class. He was always very cheerful and was happy to answer any question during class. Dr. Schwartz taught me a lot about writing a good essay. He will be missed.
