Cicely Muldoon Obituary

Cicely K. Muldoon

Cicely Ann King Muldoon spent her last week winning at the bridge table, cheering as Democrats took back the House and declaring that she'd had a good run. She died Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by family at home in Sausalito, where she'd lived since 1953. She was 96.

Born Feb. 26, 1922, to Mary and John King in Omaha, Neb., she attended South High and Creighton University. There, she met James Muldoon, a gentleman drawn to her lightning wit and kind heart. They married Sept. 6, 1943, before he shipped out for the Invasion of Normandy.

The Muldoons moved to San Francisco post-war, settling in Sausalito. When fog horns blew, seals barked and neighbors popped in for martinis during the couple's 30-plus years hosting New Year's Eve parties, she'd say there was no place she'd rather live.

Mostly, Cis worked as a homemaker. She raised seven children and served as surrogate mom to generations of youngsters, many of whom streamed through the door without knocking because she made them feel so welcome in her often raucous home. Her only real rule, kid-wise, was "No football in the living room!" She'd acquiesce upon hearing, "Ah, c'mon, just one more set of downs."

She belonged to Saint Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and dedicated years volunteering with the Sausalito Salvage Shop, a thrift store that raised money for Marin charities. She was a longtime member and past president of the Sausalito Woman's Club, an avid reader, whip-smart bridge player, crossword puzzler, and a political junkie. After a spring cancer diagnosis, she had one request of her oncologist: Get her to Nov. 6, Election Day.

Her parents and four siblings, Katie Andrews, Jack, Dorsey and Jerry King preceded her in death, as did her husband, Jim, and sons, Brian and John. Survivors include her children, Cicely, Steve and Jim (Rose-Meri) of Sausalito; Mike of Mill Valley; and Katy (Steve Keener) of Portland; daughter-in-law, Martie, of Livermore; grandchildren, Maggie, Tim, Dennis and Brian; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life is planned for 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, at the Sausalito Woman's Club. Memorial contributions: Sausalito Woman's Club Scholarship Recognition Fund; Friends of the Sausalito Library; or Hospice by the Bay.

I am writing this note a day before what would have been your Mother´s 100th birthday.
I know I speak for the entire McIntyre clan sending thoughts and prayers to all the Muldoons. Our parents enjoyed much joy and laughter over the many years. My father, Pat, met your dad at Creighton so many years ago and they remained life-long friends. I must say, my father and mother would have smiled reading your mother´s obituary knowing she lived a a full life, supporting the Democrats and winning her bridge game one last time at the young age of 96.
May her memory continue to bring each of you much joy each and every day.
