I had the privilege of working with Howard in commercial real estate in the 80's in Los Angeles. At the time he was expanding WS and I was an intern. I remember what a zest for life he had and such a visionary. He would talk about his trips to Europe and what he was working on. Such an inspirational human being. Low key...he never forgot where he came from. I learned so much from Howard and would not be doing what I am today if it wasn't for his being such a visionary.
After Howard retired I sent him a note and he called me....out of the blue. He never mentioned his health, however so interested in my leasing progress.
We spoke about our cardiologist at UCSF, and, as usual, he enlightened our conversation re: the dog-eat-dog world of commercial leasing.
Today I was in WS in SF and heard the sad news of Howard's passing.
I send my prayers and blessings to his family and all of those that were touched by Howard's special friendship.
For sure, there is a star above us that will eternally shine with the name of Howard. He was my mentor and I will never forget the time he spent with "the little people starting out".
