Janice Cook, 53
Loving mother and devoted wife
Janice Cook (née Pompa) passed away, surrounded by loved ones, on the night of Nov. 13, 2019.
Janice was born March 14, 1966, in Astoria General Hospital, daughter of the late Joe and Anne Pompa.
A resident of Staten Island for 52 years, Janice and her family grew in their home in the Silver Lake area for the past 23 years.
Janice is survived by her husband of 22 years, Gary Cook; daughter, Rachel; and son, Billy.
Janice was the adored sister of Anthony (Jana), Joseph (Maria), and JoAnne McClenin (Jerry); cherished sister-in-law of Sharon Mahon (John), Kenny (Diane) and Greg Cook.
Janice was tremendously loved by her nieces and nephews, Jodie, Cheryl, Joe, Brian, Kristie, John, Richie, Adrianna and great-nephew, Gavin. Janice was a doting Goddaughter of Charles Lotesto.
In her leisure time Janice enjoyed skiing, camping, visiting amusement parks, and going on vacation with her family. Janice loved the thrill of roller coasters and would go to Six Flags Great Adventure with her children every summer.
Janice was a troop leader for her daughter Rachel's Girl Scout troop and would participate in Boy Scout activities with her son Billy. Janice and the love of her life, Gary, were season-ticket- holding New York Jets fans and loved going to games with friends and family. In her spare time, Janice was in a book club with her friends and enjoyed painting.
Janice was employed for 34 years with the law firm of Budin, Reisman, Kupferberg & Bernstein, holding various positions. She worked in the Midtown office until departing in 2017 due to her battle with ovarian cancer.
The funeral will be held today, Saturday, Nov. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at Hanley Funeral Home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the T.E.A.L. (Tell Every Amazing Lady About Ovarian Cancer) foundation.
