Army veteran, Yankees fan, lifelong Islander, retired from USPS
Louis Aruta, 87, a lifelong Staten Island resident, passed away on November 15, 2020, at his home.
Mr. Aruta was born on July 20, 1933, and lived in the same house his entire life. He was the son of the late Gennaro and Anna (Serio) Aruta.
A graduate of Ralph R. McKee High School, Mr. Aruta worked at the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992. He went into the service in 1956 and spent two years in the United States Army, stationed in Friedburg, Germany, with the Third Armored Division. He was a proud member of the VFW.
Mr. Aruta is survived by his sisters, Theresa Nazario (Jose), Lena Fareri (James), RobinSchwab (Steve), and a brother, Anthony (Arlene). He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Falcone (John).
He was a cherished uncle to 11 nieces and nephews and 24 great-nieces and -nephews.
He loved gambling, was an avid Yankees fan and collector of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia. Above all, he was very close with family and friends. He also loved family get-togethers, especially at Christmas.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
and the Wounded Warriors
Reposing at Matthew Funeral Home Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery.
