Marie Cusack, 94
Longtime Catholic school teacher, beloved mother, grandmother
Marie Cusack, 94, of Staten Island, passed away in her sleep on the morning of February 20th, 2021.
Marie was born November 13, 1926 to the late William and Catherine Donovan Murray, in Brooklyn, NY. Her family moved to the New Dorp section of the island where she attended P.S. 41, New Dorp High School, and St. John's University.
She married the late Christopher "Buddy" Cusack (d. 2001) in 1951. Marie is survived by her son Christopher Cusack Jr. of Silver Spring, MD. She was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Baker (d. 2015) of Atlantic Highlands, NJ. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Gary Baker, three grandchildren, Gary, Michael, and Patrick Baker and three great-grandchildren.
As a young adult Marie worked in Manhattan for French perfumer Bourjois. In 1962 she became a teacher at Our Lady Queen of Peace School where she taught 2nd grade for 50 years, retiring in 2012.
Marie loved planning large family vacations which she enjoyed with her children and grandchildren. She traveled extensively to national capitals and historic locations. Marie had a passion for Broadway shows and she liked the beach, swimming, flying kites, falling snow, thunderstorms, and early morning golf.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 26th, 2021 at 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hanley Funeral Home in New Dorp. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 11 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church with burial following at Moravian Cemetery. The family prefers that donations be made in support of Our Lady Queen of Peace School, in lieu of sending flowers.
