Matthew Hanratty
Structural ironworker and grandfather of three was a master Lego builder, avid golfer, and diehard Yankees and Giants fan
Matthew Hanratty, 69, of Southport (St. James), N.C., died Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born in New York City on Oct. 18, 1950, the son of the late Thomas and Molly Godfrey Hanratty.
Matt was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport, N.C., and an active member with the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer, a diehard Yankees and Giants fan, and a master Lego builder.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Judy Hanratty; two sons, Matthew Hanratty and his wife Jennifer of Blacksburg, Va., and Raymond Hanratty and his wife Ariel of Brookline, Mass.; a sister, Kathleen Kellerhals and husband Edward of Staten Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Emma, Ryan, and Payton.
He was a graduate of Manhattan College, a structural ironworker for 35 years, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5269 Dosher Cutoff Rd., Southport, N.C. 28461.
A Time of Gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday July 1, 2020, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Southport/Oak Island, 3479 Southport Supply Rd., Bolivia, N.C. We ask everyone to follow CDC/NC guidelines for safety reasons due to Covid-19.

Judy- thanks for the tough phone call on Friday. You are one strong woman, but anyone who knows you already knows that.
I'm glad that you and Matt were able to have a few good years in North Carolina.
I'm so glad that you guys contacted Annie and me and we were able to go to the going away party on Staten Island at Jody's a few years ago.
Even though we weren't in contact the past few years, I wouldn't trade the time that I spent with Matt, you and Flossie for anything in the world. They weren't good times, they were great times .
Being around you two helped me grow up, and I thank you both .
