I would like to make a correction to post I made earlier. I did work with Russ at BOCES in connection with the adult nursing program.
He was a well loved teacher.
It was a pleasure knowing him.

I was a Franciscan Novice as well as Junior Professed with [Vernon] Russ. I've fond memories of our soft ball games at Middleburg, NY where he affectionally named me Leafy' as a pitcher. His laughter was infectious! Go rest high on that Mountain, Russ, your work on earth is done.

I had the joy of sharing seminary life with Russ at Staten Is., Granby and Rensselaer.I had the privilege of calling him brother as a Franciscan. He was clearly one of our best. All of us, family and friends, shall miss him. Certainly, as St. Francis exhorted his Friars, while Russ had time , he did good.

Dear George, Frank and your families,
Our deepest sympathy at the loss of Russell. Joe remembers him as a mentor, always having the power of positivity, a great athlete and most of all the kindest human being he ever knew. Our condolences to Jackie and to you all at this tragic loss.
