Thomas Failla, 68
Accomplished painter and puppeteer, beloved son, brother, uncle
Native Staten Islander Thomas Failla, 68, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born and raised in Grasmere, Mr. Failla graduated from New Dorp High School and attended the College of Staten Island's Drama program. As a talented actor, puppeteer and painter, his creative talents impressed all that knew him. He was a well-versed film critic with an expansive knowledge of classic films and actors. Mr. Failla was also able to give uncanny impersonations of many famous actors. Even as a child, he impressed his family and friends when he would recite all the names of the U.S. Presidents without missing a beat. He was the life of any party and had an amazing sense of humor.
Mr. Failla painted mostly with oils, but could also hand-sketch portraits, animals and scenery. He was an Impressionist painter, but also loved the works of Vincent VanGogh and the Post-Impressionist styles. Mr. Failla was a skilled puppeteer who performed with marionettes, entertaining family and friends with his brother, Joseph. Mr. Failla also had a passion for discussing history, politics and film. His vast knowledge made for great conversations.
A most memorable event was Mr. Failla's 60th birthday party, when he was thrilled to see all his family and friends together in his honor. As his health declined, Mr. Failla realized the need to look beyond this earthly plane.
"He believed we are saved by grace or undeserved favor. According to the Bible, we are personally saved by grace and our sins by accepting what Jesus did for us on the cross, " said his brother, Joseph. "It's a free gift ! We are truly thankful that Tom accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and have hope and faith that we will see him again in Heaven."
Mr. Failla was the beloved son of Marion Failla (nee Sottile) and the late Lino. He was also the loving brother of Joseph Failla and Adele Letizia; cherished uncle of Joshua, twins Luke and Andrew, Jonathan Failla and Alicia Letizia, who was also his adored Goddaughter, and great-uncle to Jasmine and Jakob. He is also survived by his many dear friends.

Tommy always entertained us since we were little kids. He always made me laugh and have fond memories when I think back of all the things we did. I'll always remember the fun we had in Coney Island!! We always had the best time together. You will be terribly missed but we will meet again.
