Hey Asia. I wanted to visit your Memorial Page on this day. We never met before. You were 1 grade below me. I been thinking a lot about you and the other 2 students from DC who were going on that trip. I feel that you would be an amazing person today. I hope your soul is at peace. No one is ever going to forget you.

To the Cottom Family,

I thought of little Asia on yesterday. I remembered that morning so vividly, desperately trying to reach my own daughter at school that morning. Dear Asia, I will never forget that you are gone, but will remember that you lived. You left the world while embarking on joyous journey. The journey took a much different route than anyone could have imagined. But thanks be to God that there are precious memories to cherish. May those memories in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved you sustain them until you are reunited.

I pray that God continues to bless the Cottom family.

I never met her, but am friends with the in-laws of a distant cousin. I often think of what a beautiful young woman little Asia would have most likely become. A 20-something, attending her fall semester classes at a university, most likely taking advantage of the many opportunities afforded to her.

Unfortunately, we all were robbed of her greatness. Thankfully, she was spared the witness of continued cruelties of this world, and is enjoying peace and safety in heaven with a loving God.

Family, please know that you are in my prayers, and I won't forget your precious jewel, Asia Cottom. God bless you.

Asia,

We loved seeing your face at our bball games. Your dad was a great guy and forever changed our lives and our hearts. Every year I take a moment of silence and think about the impact of your passing and how it brought us all together even closer. You and your family will forever be in our prayers and our hearts.

To Asia's Family,
I was in the first graduating class of Bertie Backus Jr. High School -- many years before it became the middle school Asia attended. As someone who grew up in the neighborhood, and has now returned there, I cannot pass the school building without thinking of the beautiful young girl who had just started school there, and obviously had such a bright future before her. Still, it was all God's plan, as he had another purpose, a higher purpose for Asia. Although I cannot even fathom the pain that never leaves you, and the emptiness you must feel every day, take comfort in knowing that Asia rests with God now, and He will continue to be your Great Comforter.

Asia, I wish my students and I had gotten the chance to know you as we should have exploring the Channel Islands together. I will never forget you or those who perished with you that awful day. Now I am certain you are a little Angel looking down upon us and I shall one day meet you in Heaven and finally get to know you. Your memory inspired me to be better teacher and continues to inspire me to be a better, more tolerant, more patient, more compassionate person. My heart will never stop aching for your parents.

Every time I think of Sept. 11, I think of Asia Cottom. Her story resonates with me, I was a teacher in DCPS when this tragedy occurred. Everytime I ride down South Dakota Ave. and pass Backus MS, I think of your daughter, her teacher, and classmates whose lives were tragically taken. Your daughter will always be remembered and now as I have an 11 yr old myself, I think of the pain you must have felt losing her at such a young age. You are forever in my prayers, may God bless you !

To the family of Asia, we think of your daughter everyday. Our son (Trevor)after this tragity happened wanted a memorial bracelet in honor of someone who passed. He chose Asia, she was the same age as him. It has been almost 10 years and he has never taken it off. He as well as our family are reminded of your sweet girl everytime we see his memorial bracelet. It breaks our heart, however we wanted you to know that our family has kept your daughter close to our heart. I don't believe my son will ever take off his braclet, it's stainless steal and engraved with Asia's information. He wears it with so much pride and love in his heart. God Bless. The Haney Family

Asia,
You should be a 20-year old college student contemplating how you'll save the world when you graduate. We'll never know what we lost when you and your young friends were taken from us. I can only imagine the sense of excitement with which you boarded your plane for an adventure that was not to be. In hopes that other students might remember you, I dedicated a school book about geography to you. May those who remember you follow your dream. May those who miss you receive the strength to live with the unexplainable. I will always remember you.

My God grant your family and friends the peace and serenity they seek and provide them with the strength to understand things they cannot change. Your memories are precious and no one can take that away. May God be with you all. Asia, you are always on my mind and FOREVER IN MY HEART!!

I am so very sorry for your lost. I'm a middle school teacher at an American school in Okinawa, Japan. I'll share Asia's story today in memory of her and all those who are no longer with us. From what I've read about Asia, her family and all who knew her were blessed. I hope those blessings continue for all those left behind. Today we mourn your loss but celebrate Asia's life. Asia is an example of the best in our children and she did give much in way of encouragement to others. Her story is a beautiful one.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
