Today in class my history teacher showed us this website while we did a lesson on 9/11. I was excited when I read that Garnet once played for my hometown hockey team, the St. louis Blues. I just wanted to write to Garnet's family and tell them how sorry I am for their loss. My classmates and I will be praying for you and the other families that were effected by this tragedy.

Ace Bailey, or as we knew him in pre-hockey days in Lloydminster, Garnet, is missed by family, friends and those who shared in his hockey career. 9/11 was a terror we must never forget and as someone who knew Ace many years ago would know without a doubt that he would have stood up to the cowardly terrorists. Ace Bailey is missed and people like him are needed to help protect our values.

I wonder where Ace was on that plane, when the Hijackers took it over? Ace was no sissy, he would have fought. The most important goal of his NHL Career, was in 1972. Stanley Cup finals. Bruins vs. Rangers. Bruins led 5-2 after two periods. Rangers tied the score. With just under two minutes in regulation, Ace scored the winning goal. This was the fourth line that came through in a clutch situation. Bailey at Left Wing, Mike Walton at Center, and Ed Westfall Right wing. I did meet Ace a few times in person. He was real nice. Also during that series, Bailey had a fight with Ron Stewart. Bailey broke Stewart's jaw in two places.

Years pass but memories last. Garnet made a positive and lasting difference in people's lives. Hockey was even a tougher game than now and Garnet persevered using his toughness and spirited play to move on from Lloydminster, to Edmonton to thr NHL. A testament to his development as a person and a hockey player was that he stayed with the game as he loved as a scout and in player development.

My heart sank when I heard about Mr. Bailey's tragic death on 9/11. I visited New York City recently and saw Garnet "Ace" Bailey's name on the memorial at Ground Zero.I shed a tear for him and the innocent lives lost on flight 175. He was a wonderful human being. What a tragic loss for his family, friends and fans. My prayers are with them.
September 12, 2015
Lloydminsterites of Garnet's time there will remember him as a feisty, talented young hockey player. Now we remember the man he became and sadly because of 9/11 too early his legacy. Garnet was always a "fighter" and I know he would have been fighting to the end for his fellow passengers against the terrorists.

Whenever the Rangers win a game a mention some of the opposing teams players in my '
"Rangers Win" facebook cheer. I also try to remember a player from that same team when I was a kid growing up watching the NHL. Last night's 4-3 win over the Caps game included some of the Caps players, my anti Ranger facebook friends aannnnnd a player from the 70's. The only player I remembered was Ace Bailey. After I posted it on my FB page, one of my co-Ranger fans mentioned he was lost on 9-11. My condolences to his family and Capital nation. Living in NJ just 50 miles from Manhattan and coming a canceled job assignment from being in that building that day, I feel very fortunate to be able to share this story.
RIP, Ace
