Michele M. Heidenberger, 57, a flight attendant on the plane that struck the Pentagon, worked for the airline for 25 years.

Family members said she was trained five years ago in how to deal with a hijacking. "Knowing Michelle, she was probably the one who would have approached them first and said you can't go into the cockpit," said sister-in-law Betsy Heidenberger.

I will never forget this caring mother, nor our conversations as she sought the best school for her daughter's education. I was the Director of Admissions at Stone Ridge, Bethesda, MD and her questions for her 4 year old were as probing and full of concern as the Upper School parents' !
I had to move to the West Coast not long after that and never returned. But I still remember, and I have Faith that Michele is still a caring presence for her family.
May they be comforted.

To The Family,
When tragedies strike us without warning, it makes it that much more devastating. 9/11 will always bring devestation and tears. How we all long for the day when Bible prophecy concerning a paradise earth filled with love and happiness is fulfilled. When Ms. Heidenberger is awaken by the Lord Jesus she will not have to worry about dying at the hands of evil terrorists. I am so sorry for your loss. God bless you.

Sincerely,
Mr. Terry of NC

Dear Tom and Children,
Michelle and I had not been in touch in years, but I always knew she was a friend you could call and just pick up where you left off no matter how much time had elapsed.
My heart goes out to you. What sticks with me was that Michelle was always smiling or bursting out with her raucous laugh whenever we worked Mexico trips together. I have to laugh myself when I remember what a great time we had when you and Michelle visited us in Munich. I'm so sorry we fell out of contact for so many years.
My prayers go out to you and for Michelle. I still have her pound cake recipe which I cherish.

I recently visited the Ground Zero Memorial with my family. The 3 of us purchased bracelets from the gift shop. Each bracelet held the name of a person who lost his/her life during the events of 9/11. Inside my blue velvet bag was the name Michele Heidenberger. I wear the bracelet which bears your name every day, and say a prayer for your family every time I put it on. I am a teacher in the Chicago suburbs, and I have been able to talk with my students about the magnitude of the events on 9/11, and share your name and your story with them as well....so that this tragedy is never forgotten.

I pray you know, we will never forget you. I celebrate your life and know your spirit remains in the hearts of countless Americans who honor you today. Rest in Peace, in the arms of God almighty.

Tommy --

I have thought of Michele, you and your family often since that tragic day on 9/11/2001. Michael and I knew, as soon as we saw Michele's name, that you had suffered a tremendous loss.

I don't know if you will ever see this but I wanted to let you know that the brief period of time we shared together as young couples in Whitehaven were truly magical. We think of those days often -- how carefree we all were, with hopes and dreams for the future. Michele was a beautiful soul and was very deeply in love with you.

On the anniversary of 9/11 I especially think of you and your children. How proud she would be of all of you. Know that you remain in our thoughts and prayers --

You are and always will be a true hero and lovingly thought of for the rest of my life. "We will never forget." Love, Marie

My Girl Lauren in front of the Capitol building
I want to let your family know that I have been praying for them. Events of that tragic day will be imprinted in my vision forever. What I felt, what I saw; my belief system would never be the same again. I sometimes think that I would have been by your side...

I was a flight attendant for AirTran Airways and in Sept 1998, I got a letter from American Airlines inviting me to KC for an interview- which was what I had dreamed of all my life. God led ME away from that. I was very much in love at the time and chose to quit the Airline and a start a family...

I would have been based in Boston and with a few years seniority....

I have been married for 10 years and am now a real estate agent. I have a beautiful 9-year-old daughter named Lauren. There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank our precious God for every moment. Not that every one of those moments has been grand, but I thank God that I was given the chance to grow and LOVE.

I believe we are all put on this earth to doing something special. You did the ultimate special thing by sacrificing your life for some to gain knowledge of a much deeper threat to life. Thank you.

I appreciate you and and your family for taking on such pain and burden.

We are all blessed that we see another sunrise because of you...rest in peace love.

MEMORIES....I was in Naples, Italy in the Spring, a woman passed by me & she looked so like Michele that I called out to her "Michele"! But a-last she was not you, but oddly enough her name was Michele! They say we all have a double; I may have met yours. She was British - hair a bit lighter; I told her our story (meeting when our daughters began kindergarten, of our life long friendship & of 9/11). I stopped at the Sansevero Chapel & said a prayer in memory of you ...You are still in my thoughts

I have a small slip of paper that has Michele's name on it that I selected from a table full of paper slips at my church back in 2001. Each slip named a victim of 9/11. I have that small paper tacked up on my bulletin board and see it every day and remember Michele and her family in my thoughts and prayers. I wish I had had a chance to know her in her life and not just by her unnecessary death. I treasure that piece of paper and will always think of her.

Michele was a beautiful human being. It was my pleasure to be her roommate for one year in Chicago with Jaye Butler and Celeste Guadagno. I think of her a lot and all the fun we shared on Rush Street. I hope Tom, Alison, and Tom are able to honor Michele appropriately by finding happiness on the rest of their journey through the world. Although I didn't know Michele, I am wearing her MercyBand.I know many of the families who have lost loved ones in the WTC and I wear a US flag pin daily to remind me to say a prayer for them and their loved ones.

As time passes, may you know that she is not forgotten nor is how she needlessly lost her life. May the happiest of memories you shared with her overshadow those painful ones.
