My family & I are saddened to hear of the passing of Rev, Bro Fulgence Dougherty. He was a kind & soft spoken person who helped guide & form the characters of not only my brothers but of many of their friends from our community as well, when they attended St. Gregory's Boy's School in Dhaka, East Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
May Bro Fulgence's sould rest in eternal peace.

Brother Fulgence was a great teacher, administrator and headmaster.
Though he was particular about discipline but was still very popular with his students.
We studied under him in St. Gregory high School, Dhaka, Bangladesh and greatly admired him.
His passing away is a great loss to all of us.
May his soul rest in peace.

Brother Fulgence
was my teacher and head master @ St Joseph and St Gregory's school in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was both a mentor and strict disciplinarian who introduced me to St Gregory High School. He was an excellent teacher and administrator under whose watch thousands of Bangladeshis not only got an excellent education but a moral foothold in life. Many thousands of Bangladeshis and Pakistanis owe him a deep gratitude.
May the almighty God grant him eternal peace and forgive him for is shortcomings
Amen

Brother Fulgence and I entered the Congregation of Holy Cross in the same week in September 1941 as postulants at Sacred Heart College, Watertown, Wisc. and we became good friends for the next 76 years. He was always the same soft-spoken, kind, generous, humble intellectual and devoted religious. Although we were separated by our assignments on two continents, we contined to communicate and keep our friendship intact. When he finally returned to America, he was concerned about how he would fit in again with American culture and education. At that time I was president of the University of Portland and suggested to him that he apply for the position of Director of International Students. He did and was highly successful in aiding students in their orientation to American life and education. He won the admiration of students and faculty alike. When he returned to Columba Hall, I was very happy because I had retired and was living in a retirement community in South Bend. I could write a book about Brother Fulgence and our friendship, but this is enough for now. May God reward him generously for the admirable life that he led as a Holy Cross Brother. My condolescenes to his family and his many, many friends.
