Gary and Carol were friends of my Mom and Dad at Twin Lakes Baptist Church. I have come across several poems that Gary wrote to them over the years. He was such a talented and creative person. It has been my good fortune to have spent many a Wednesday morning breakfast with him over the past 12 years. His knowledge and Wit were captivating. He is greatly missed. May God comfort you in your loss.

Stephany and Mark
That is a wonderful obituary for Gary, and a great picture. It's all very true, but with limited space, there's so much untold.
He first came to my attention when the pastor read one of his poems in church. Then he taught a class on Psalms. He was an excellent teacher. He did extensive research and prepared detailed lesson plans.
After his electronics course at Keesler AFB at Biloxi, Mississippi, he was kept as an instructor. I was impressed that his experience and expertise working for the Navy were so well known that when the Navy was unable to solve a problem with their anti-submarine program the Admiral told them to get Gary Averill. And Gary solved the problem.
I have great respect and admiration for Gary, and I'm glad I got to know you and your family. Other than seeing a Christian express their love for Christ, nothing touches my heart more than seeing the love of a daughter for her father. Thank you, Stephany, for touching my heart.
I would like to be there with you, but I thought it best to stay home. I've been praying for the family and having good thoughts.
We miss your dad, and I look forward to seeing him again. I pray that his offspring will read his poems and Bible Study lessons and get to know Gary and his Lord. God bless all of you, Art
