Richard Stewart “Dick” Best, 73, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his home in Buchanan, Michigan.
Dick was born on January 7, 1948 in Buchanan, MI to his late parents, Richard (Dick) Best and Edna Best. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherry Best; his children, Rae Marie (Kelly) Delaney, Ryan (Kelley) Best, and Nate (Elizabeth Knack) Best; seven grandchildren; and sisters, Joann Ott and Jackie (Terry) Bannister.
Dick was a proud and highly-decorated Veteran, who served in the Army from 1969-71 and earned rank of Staff Sergeant (SSG). In high school, Dick earned All American football honors. He shared his knowledge and love for the game by coaching rocket football. He was an avid softball player and golfer and hardly missed a Michigan football game. Dick grew up loving horses and had a passion for dancing. In his free time, he enjoyed watching old western movies and reading. He had a great sense of humor and loved to tease his kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews. Dick had an affinity for cottage cheese, cashews and sweets and routinely had three cookies and coffee for breakfast; and he was a connoisseur of Miller High Life. He was deeply loved and will truly be missed.
A Memorial service with Military Rites provided by American Legion Post 51 will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 1:00 at Oakridge Cemetery, Buchanan, MI in the area behind the Chapel. A “Celebration of Life” will take place at a later date.
