I'm very sorry to hear of Richard's passing. We were swimming acquaintances at the YMCA, and I enjoyed talking about opera with him, most recently about Thomas Ades's opera, about which we had different opinions! To me he was a gentle and humble man; I knew little about his many accomplishments until reading the obituary. I will miss him.
