Hugh Francis McStay Gibbstown, N.J. Hugh Francis McStay age 86 years of Gibbstown passed away peacefully on Friday May 7, 2021 surrounded by his family. Hugh was born in Gibbstown to Margaret (Dugan) and Francis McStay. He was predeceased by his brother Edward McStay and sister Dolores Mooney. He was a lifelong resident of Gibbstown. He attended Paulsboro High School and then joined the Marine Corp and served in the Korean War. Hugh worked for E. I. DuPont, Repauno Plant for 38 years, as a pipefitter and retired in 1992. In 1957 Hugh married "His Bride", Margaret "Peggy" (Reilly). Together they raised their 3 children, Lauren (Matthew) Miller, Hugh (Nancy) McStay, and Christa (Jeffrey) Hill. He always bragged about his 9 Grandchildren Hugh (Rachel) McStay, Christopher (Danielle) McStay, Meghan (Samuel) Hernandez, Erin (Michael) Hensh, Allison (Justin) Dickey, Mitchell Miller, Patrick Hill, Caitlyn Hill, and Christian Hill as well as his 10 Great Grandchildren Hannah McStay, Connor McStay, Bryan McStay, John McStay, Carly McStay, Isabel Hernandez, Sammy Hernandez, Olivia Hensh, Cameron Dickey and Maggie Dickey. Hugh enjoyed spending his summers at his summer home in Pierce's Point with his family. He was a long time member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Michael's Church, Gibbstown; the Knights of Columbus Queen of Heaven Council #4154; Dupont Breakfast Club, and VFW Post # 5343 of The Villas, NJ. He also liked camping with "F" troop, traveling with "his bride" including a trip to Ireland and to all but two states and attending the Kentucky Derby. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Thursday May 13, 2021 in St Michael's Church, 313 Memorial Avenue, Gibbstown. Relatives and friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 PM and after 9 AM Thursday in the church until Mass time. Interment New St. Joseph's Cemetery, Swedesboro. Arrangements by McBride - Foley Funeral Home, Paulsboro. Contributions can be made in his memory to Franciscan Missionary Sisters, 150 South School Street Gibbstown, NJ 08027. To the Mcstay family,
So sorry to hear about the passing of "Big Hugh". He was the best. Larger than life, I can't believe he's gone. There are few people you meet during your lifetime that have an impact on your life and for me, he was one of those people. So sorry for your loss!
