Carmella Marksbury Obituary

MARKSBURY, Carmella G.
(Silano)
(Age 77)

On February 23rd, we lost a very special part of our world. Although small in stature, Carmie's presence and being were anything but small. Carmie was born on July 28, 1933 to Gene and MaryAnn Silano in Spokane. She graduated from Marycliff High School. Carmie met Philip Marksbury on a blind date and they were married on January 31, 1953. Growing in love and friendship, Phil and "his bride" were married 55 years, until his death on November 23, 2009. Carmie was an avid reader. Reading was a source of pleasure for her. Carmie was a people person and enjoyed working with the public. She worked for many years for Hickory Farms and later volunteered at the Sacred Heart Gift Shop. Her faith was strong and Carmie's life was dedicated to her family and her friends. If you left the house hungry it was not for her lack of trying to feed you. She was actively involved in the lives of her family members which provided her a source of great pleasure and pride. She possessed an uncommon strength as she fought her battle with cancer for over five years. She leaves behind a large extended family of friends and relatives, whom she always kept in her thoughts and prayers. Carmie was preceded in death by her parents Gene and MaryAnn, her brother Anthony, and her husband Phil. She is survived by her daughter Melodie Marksbury, grandson Joshua (Andrea) Durham, great-grandsons Porter and Holden (due 3/17); her brother John (Marge) Silano and their children and grandchildren; Michelle (Jerome) Sanders: Anthony, Vincent, Michael and Isabella; Joel (Nancy) Silano: TJ and Maddy; her sister-in-law Helen Marksbury; beloved nieces and nephews and their families Linda (Robert) Gardner, Rick (Carol) Marksbury, Donald Marksbury, Linda (Jeff) Johnson, Judy (John) Budrow, Elleen (Dave) Doyle, and Bob (Vicki) Gish. In lieu of services, Carmie will be honored with an open house at 2PM on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the family home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Monastery of Saint Clare, 4419 N Hawthorne Street, Spokane, WA 99205.

Melodie...
I will always treasure the wonderful memories of your mother. She was a second mom to me growing up next door. She was always there with kindness, care, really good food, and LOTS of fun. Remember when she would drive us to the moon in the little Ford Falcon??? Carmie was the best...a wonderful mom, daughter, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Take care my friend...You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Melodie and Josh -
Lew and I were sorry to hear of Carmie's passing. She was a special joy to be around and we enjoyed knowing her. You may know that as a child, she lived next to Lew's grandmother in Hillyard - I think. She was very generous in sharing her memories with us, adding to our knowledge of early family.
I know she really wanted to be with you when those babies were born.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your son at this time.
