STEVENS, Shirley Northam (Age 89) December 8, 1929 - December 23, 2018 Just two weeks after her 89th birthday, we said good bye to our loving wife and mother, Shirley Stevens. Shirley was born December 8, 1929, to Hedley John Northam and Ellen Whitlatch Northam in Butte, Montana. Shirley spent most of her youth in Helena but attended High School in Casper, Wyoming, graduating in 1947. After attending Carroll College in Helena for one year, she graduated from Montana State College in Bozeman with a degree in Medical Technology. At Montana State she met Otto Stevens and they were married August 23, 1952. Shirley and Otto lived in Chicago while Otto completed dental school, then on to San Clemente and Bremerton during Otto's US Navy assignments. Shirley and Otto moved to Spokane in 1956 where Otto established his dental practice and they raised their five children. Shirley was active as a Camp Fire leader and in the Messiah Lutheran Church Sunday School and she was an avid supporter of her family's many activities. She spent countless hours volunteering for Deaconess Hospital, among other interests. Shirley was a loving mom and will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her husband, Otto Stevens; her sister, Beverley Northam Wahl (Cincinnati, Ohio); and her children: Scott Stevens (Suzi) of Madison, Alabama, Diane Paxton, Spokane, Rich Stevens, Spokane, Brian Stevens (Denise), Coeur d'Alene, and Kristi Rice (Rob), Spokane. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service in her honor will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt Street, Spokane, at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, January 4. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's honor to Lutheran Community Services Northwest (https://lcsnw.org) or Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Inland Northwest (https://rmhcinlandnw.org) .

With sadness I heard of Shirley s death. But there is joy in heaven apon her arrival. Our condolences to Otto and the family. She is one of my earliest remembrance as a child in Spokane. Later I shared becoming a Bobcat with both Shirley and Otto. Stewart always thinks of Shirley's happiness that she could cook him eggs for breakfast while Otto and I were pleased to have cold cereal and blueberries. Thanks for the hospitality at your B and B.
May you know the presence of our loving God at this time and always.

Otto and family. It is with great sadness that Jack and I read of Shirley's passing. She has been a very positive presence in our lives. We saw you both at big events for PLU and family and every time her calm and supportive friendship has been noticed. Our prayers of love are shared with all your family. God bless you all in your period of remembrance and mourning
