Margaret Josephine Evanko, a lifelong resident of Beaver Meadows, died Sunday morning at the Manor at St. Luke Village, Hazleton, where she had been a guest.
Born in Beaver Meadows on Sept. 5, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Veronica (Peckar) Petruska.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Evanko, in 2001; her son, Thomas J. Evanko; her sister, Dorothy Kattner; and her brother, William Petruska.
She was a member of the former St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Beaver Meadows, and a current member of All Saints Parish at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church, Weatherly. She was also a member of the Beaver Meadows Senior Center, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8225.
Margaret enjoyed playing bingo and watching and listening to polka music.
Surviving are her daughters, Connie Zieminski and her husband, Michael, Beaver Meadows; and Mary Lou Henry and her husband, Jack, Beaver Meadows; her daughter-in-law, Carmela (Evanko) Gemmell, Rehoboth Beach, Del.; her brother, Edward Petruska and his wife, Shirley, Beaver Meadows; her sister-in-law, Laura Petruska, Richmond, Va.; her grandchildren, Michelle Augustine, Melissa Pavlick, Michael Zieminski Jr., T.J. Evanko, Jaclyn Hudacek and Andy Evanko; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
Interment will be in St. Mary's R.C. Cemetery, Beaver Meadows. COVID-19 restrictions will apply during services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's R.C. Cemetery. Send donations to All Saints Parish, 17 N. Cleveland St., McAdoo, PA 18237.
