Howey , David F.
David F. Howey 69 of Wellsboro passed away in his home, comforted by many, many loving family members and friends, Friday December 23, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was the son of Frederick and Annie Jo (Chapman) Howey, born February 12, 1947. David graduated from Wellsboro High School and served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War. He owned and operated two local businesses, Howey's Carpet Installation, and, later The Steak House on Main Street in Wellsboro. Dave fulfilled a boyhood dream of being a bus driver, working as a coach driver for Benedict's Bus Service in his retirement from The Steak House. He was very active in his community over the years and served in many capacities, but his service as Past President on the Wellsboro Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Charleston Twp. Municipal Board, and Chairman of the Laurel Health Golf Tournament was especially important. David was an accomplished competitor in several disciplines, he was an excellent pool player and a member of two 8-Ball leagues, belonged to the Pro Bowling Tour and had several 300 games to his credit, and was an avid golfer with three hole-in-ones. He enjoyed his woodworking shop and loved hunting and hiking.
David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Goodwin Howey, a sister: Kay Hickman (Jerry), a brother: Dale Howey (Joyce). He was the proud father of three daughters: Christina Coffee (Geoff) of Wellsboro, Jennifer Showers (Jack) of Brenham, TX, and Sarah Taylor (Wayne) of Bolivar, NY. Dave was especially proud of his 10 grandchildren: Wayne, Morgan, Ashley, Paige and Trey Taylor; Jordyn and Aidan Coffee; Dustin, Charlotte, and Noah Worthington
The family has entrusted the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street Wellsboro, PA to handle David's services. The Howey family invites friends and family to the funeral home for a visitation on Wednesday December 28 from 5-7pm in the funeral home. His family will provide flowers, so in lieu of flowers those interested in doing so are encouraged to donate in David's name to the American Cancer Society. I'm saddened to hear of Dave's passing but rejoice in having know him. He was always a man to look up to.
I'm happy to have shared some special moments with Dave and Barb, Robbie and Rachel this past July. Even though cancer had returned Dave was still determined to win out.
Yes God will have his hands full with Dave. Dave's competitiveness and wit was amazing.
Dave you have been an inspiration to us all!
Rest in pease.

Barb and Family,
We're sad to hear of Dave's passing. He gave life 'his all' and lived his life to the fullest. I remember many tales told by him over the years and most all were inclusive of his dry sense of humor. God needs to keep a watchful eye on him! Rest peacefully Dave.

Barb and Family,
Heartfelt sympathy in the passing of Dave. A treasure, a friend, my boss. Not all work, I enjoyed the hunting stories and the many bus trips he drove or navigated. And he would stop at the office with Annika in tote..his other girl. Dave was a fighter, determined to live life as long as possible. Always upbeat and positive, regardless of how he really felt. He said many times, yes there are side affects and not always pleasant, but it passes by.
Dave, Our hearts are heavy, yours is free! Pain free and illness gone! Knowing we will see you again.Rest in Peace.
For now, I'm asking for God's Love to surround your family and give them comfort and strength to cope today..and the many days ahead. God Bless all of you.
