Brown, Lewis A.
Age 90, of Gillett, PA entered into the arms of His Lord and into his eternal home, promised to him, {John 14:2 "In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you."} on Friday, September 13, 2013. He was born on March 8, 1923, the son of the late Leroy and Pearl (Lewis) Brown. His loving wife of 64 years, Iva E. "Betty" Brown preceded him in death on August 20, 2011. He is survived by daughters, Linda D. (Raymond) MacAuslan of Gillett, PA; Kathleen A. (Mickey) Millen of Gillett, PA; sons, James L. (Virginia) Brown of Loysville, PA; Gerald E. (Faith) Brown of Gadsden, TN; eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Marian Campagna of Lindley, NY; Alice Ballard of Horseheads, NY. Lewis was a long-time faithful member of the Mosherville Bible Church and the Gillett Senior Citizens Organization. He was a man of God, devoted to his Church for many years where he was the Sunday School Superintendent and taught Child Evangelism Release Time Classes. He enjoyed his time with the Sunday School and he was always concerned about children. He will be remembered for his quiet spirit, his faithfulness to prayer, patience and his "slow to answer" responses. Lewis had a deep caring and abiding love for all of his family and he expressed and showed that caring love daily. He loved to have his family come home for meals and loved to share ice cream with his friends. He loved picnics and was always ready to leave for one. He enjoyed hunting, farming, especially haying, riding his 1948 Ford tractor and milking the cows. He had a passion for old tractors and for his ice cream. He was a WWII Veteran of the US Army Air Corp and served his country in Trinidad and Puerto Rico. He worked for many years at the Remington Rand and after its closing as a welder. He could fix anything and everything with his special "cobbling" skills. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. Elmira/Southport, NY on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at the Mosherville Bible Church Mosherville, PA on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Pastor James Truax will officiate. Graveside services will follow in the Gillett Cemetery Gillett, PA where the Chemung County Veterans Honor Squad will accord Mr. Brown Military Honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to the Mosherville Bible Church Sunday School 9914 Coryland Road Gillett, PA 16925. The family wishes to thank Dr. Rupik and the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Staff on 4-D and ICU for your kindness and compassion, and special thanks to Melba Campbell from the Mosherville Bible Church. Dear All of Lewis's Wonderful Family. What a wonderful example of a true Christian gentleman living his life, you have all had right before you, his family, that he loved deeply, for so many years. God has blessed you richly with Lewis's Christian example of living for Him. I am praying for God's peace, comfort and strength for each of you now as we all share in this time of grief. We know that this BIG hole left within our hearts now, with Lewis's joyful entry into heaven, will one day turn to those happy, wonderful memories we have shared with Lewis, until that one day we will all be praising our Lord, right along with our Lewis. My deepest Sympathies. Love, Melba Campbell

I am sure Lewis has heard his Lord's
"well done" because he was such a faithful servant. I have many wonderful
memories of our younger years in Gillett - in the YP meetings and other
outings. May God give you His comfort
as only He can during these days.

Our hearts were grieved when we were told of Lew's death, but we know that he with his Savior, Jesus Christ. Therefore, we rejoice that he is in heaven today. He was a dear friend, and it was our privilege to serve with him at Mosherville Bible Church for many years. He was a true Christian gentleman. As the Psalmist wrote in Psalm 116:15, "Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints."
We extend our sympathy to you, who are members of his family, and we pray that you will experience the comfort of the Lord at this time of grief.
In Christian Love,
Pastor Robert & Vivian Bevins
