Mark, Steve, and Shon,

I am so, so saddened to read this. In a moment of nostalgia, I just now decided to type in Hartman, Elmira, NY to see what came up. I don't know why you guys flashed across my mind tonight but you did.

You may never read this as I'm late in reading this, but if you do, please remember how much I adored your mom. The warm memories of spending time at your house and feeling so incredibly comfortable around her and your dad and all of you have never left me.

It was always so worth the six hour drive to spend time with the Hartmans, which also had the added bonus of spending time with all of the Andrus'. To all of her brothers and sisters, you embraced me as a friend of the guys and made me feel like I always belonged at any family gathering. You were such a great family and my heart goes out to you as siblings as I know how close you were.

Maryann(a) was such a strong part of my life so many years ago. I bonded with her out in Oregon and over in Sweden, and at her kitchen table, and it was like we hadn't skipped a beat. She was one of the kindest, warmest, fun-loving, funny, genuine people I have ever had the fortune to share part of my life with, and she has never left my heart.

To my three guys and their families, a woman told me at my mom's wake twelve years ago that you always worry that you'll forget her face, but you never do. She was so right, as your mom's beautiful smile and warm eyes will visit you when you least expect it. My mom visits me when I hear a song, or use one of her expressions, or even in the grocery store when I reach for a certain cereal without giving it a second thought, only to realize it's because it's the one she would buy for us.

John, although we never met, I thank you for giving her your friendship and love these last many years. You were a lucky man.

Mark, Steve, and Shon, you know she loved you with all of her heart and that will never change. You will always have that. If I could come hug each of you right now I would, as my affection for you has never lessened, after all these years. You, too, have never left my heart.
