Harney, Barbara L.
Barbara L. Harney, age 76 of West Chester, PA passed away Sept. 6 following a long battle with complications from gastrointestinal surgery. Born in Bronx, New York, Barbara was the precious daughter of Vincent W. Bauer and Evelyn Serrer Boyd, and a graduate of Dominican Commercial High School, Jamaica, New York. Her husband John J. Harney preceded her in death. The loving mother of Sean P. (Cindy) of Brantingham, NY, Kathleen A. Harney-Clinton (Jeffrey) of Grants Pass, OR, Kevin M. (Stephanie) of Hilton, NY and Dennis B. (Christian Lochetto) of West Chester, PA, Barbara pioneered a new chapter in life with John in the Irish Hills of Ridgebury, PA in 1979. In their commitment to education, Barbara and John supported their children through Epiphany Elementary School, Notre Dame High School, bachelor's degrees in college, graduate school and medical school. Barbara is survived by her children and grandchildren, Meghan, Patrick (Whitney), Daniel, Sonia and Aidan Harney. Barbara was preceded in death by her brother Vincent W. (Lois) Bauer and sister Joanne Anderson; and she is survived by her sisters Jeanette (Bill) Egan of Palos Verdes Estates, CA and Deborah Boyd (Eddie Sandberg) of Redding, CA, and her brother David (Doreen) Boyd of Long Beach, CA.
Barbara defined herself as a champion of her children and as a loyal wife to John, while vigorously pursuing a family life enhanced by gardening, cooking, traveling, dancing, bowling, card playing and civic engagement. Barbara was known for her infectious laugh, love of life, and her ability to make anyone feel welcome in her home.
Friends of all faiths are welcome to join Barbara's family in a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Chapel Road in Milan, PA at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 17. A viewing will be held in the church at 9:00 a.m., with interment immediately to follow. All are welcome to join the family at Barbara and John's homestead in Ridgebury immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery Association 18 McCardle Rd Sayre PA 18840, Ridgebury Fire Department, Towanda Memorial Hospital Hospice, or Kingdom Air Corps (Sutton, AK).
