Salutations,

Thank you, everyone, for your generous outpouring of kind reflection upon my Mother's palpable influence on your lives. Your memories are meaningful and appreciated.

Cheryl Betzer was an excellent nurse, a dependable and thorough co-worker, a generous volunteer, a truly loyal friend, and a faithful wife. She was a mother, an aunt, a sister, a daughter and above all, a remarkable human being.

As a nurse, Cheryl Betzer will be remembered for being professional, consistent, caring and diligent. She was relentless in her pursuit of excellence in nursing for the benefit of her patients. She was particularly proud of possessing a record of, "perfect sterile technique". She loved nursing and never sacrificed her passion for the profession.

Dr. Jay Mehta, her employer for 20 years, remembers Cheryl Betzer for her unshakeable strength, unrelenting consistency, caution, and high standards even in the face of adversity.

Publically, my Mother overcame the daily limitations that living with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus imposes upon the bearer both psychologically and physically.

Persevering against all odds, because of her fragile and continually fluxuating health, devistating personal losses, and the initial restrictions of the era to which she was born, Cheryl Betzer became a confident, educated, strong, and capable woman whom excercised her civic duty to her community and family when called upon without apprehension.

She was a volunteer to the Junior League for many years, helped launch The Bargin Hut, contributed to the local food bank, was instrumental in the establishment of Planned Parenthood in Elmira, and made sure every woman she knew had access to a proper education about herself, her choices, her rights, and her own personal power.

Friend's of my Mother will remember her as an uncompromising and indominable force. She was shamelessly honest, a true confidant, and a pure loyalist seasoned by a sprig of the rebellious anarchy inspired by the generation from which she sprung. She valued your comaraderie of spirit, and she took your secrets with her to the grave.

Cheryl Betzer was a faithful and devoted wife who went the extra mile the hard way everyday. Her husband, my Father, Jeff Betzer respected her, served her, cared for her, and faithfully loved her dearly. He worked hard everyday of his life as her partner in building their dreams.

When he predeceased her in 1992, she never recovered from the loss, never remarried, and she kept what he left as an effigy to the memory of the dreams that passed away with him.

My mother now joins the 1st child she lost due to her then undiagnosed illness, Carissa Leigh Betzer, and her beloved husband, Jeff Betzer who predecesed her unexpectedly at the young age of 41.

May they rest in peace together as a reunited family and finally realize the happiness, comfort and contentment that eluded them in life.

God bless all of you, family, friends, patients, care-givers, co-workers and fellow volunteers. You were a beacon of light and warmth.

Thank you for remembering my mother's influence in your lives with tenderness and fondness. She was one of a kind.~Marcy

I am an old school chum of Cheryl's. We attended classes together from the elementary grades through our senior year at Horseheads High School. I have fond memories of Cheryl in my sixth grade class with Mrs. Vosburgh at Broad Street Elementary School. We sat together in a cluster of desks, facing the right side of the teacher with several other girls. There were ten girls and twenty boys in our room. In my mind's eye I can still see Cheryl, huffing and puffing as she hobbled around the bases in a kickball game with a big grin on her face. Our sixth grade memory book described her as "nice, quite helpful, studious, most likely to succeed as a housewife." Since she lived behind the school on Taylor Road, I would sometimes walk to her house and hang out with her after school.

Cheryl, you were part of my childhood, and I am very saddened by this news. You will always hold a special place in my heart. You had a wonderful smile!

I knew Cheryl from Dr. Metha's office, she was open & honest when I came in for a checkup; we made each other laugh.
I never felt more comfortable in a Doctors office; she did that. What a great woman.
She will be truly missed by everyone she met. Until we meet again on our next journey, Au Revior

I didn't know Cheryl personally, I only knew Cheryl through Dr. Mehta's office. She was always so nice and always asked about my children that Dr. Mehta delivered. Heaven gained a wonderful angel and she will be missed by many. So sorry for your loss.

Sending my deepest condolences to all who will miss Cheryl. I met her in nursing school, and our paths crossed through out our nursing careers.
Cheryl was one of my nurses when I delivered my second daughter. She was pleased to be able to go home that night to tell her daughter that someone else had finally named their daughter Marcie.
Her smile was infectious. I was so saddened to read of her passing.
