To the Carlotos family:

I must display my sadness of the news but at the same time brought back memories that only experience it can be understood.

Perhaps not many people know about the timeline about the Carlotos family in Lisbon. If Confeitaria dos Santos across from the famous Santos-o-Velho Church and Betinha in front of the famous Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga, both pastry places on Rua das Janelas Verdes (street) in Lisbon comes into someone mind, then you would know the family since late 60s.

Good things always stay with us in our minds, I was in my early teens, my mother struggling by herself to take care of four of us (Brother and two Sisters). Before or after school I would stop in front of the store and look at the pastries, one day I was invited in by Mrs. Arminda and I was asked to pick my favorite pastry, a dream come true, of course, I picked the Cone de Chocolate, and to my admiration, I was invited to work there after school hours, full of happiness and thinking about all those pastries I ran to my Mother for permission. After working there for a couple of weeks I realize was not about the pastries, it was about how they treat me, felt I was part of the family, Mr. Jose Alberto Carloto would take his son (Zé Manel) to the pool, eat out, and other activities (not forgetting riding Zé Manels bicycle), and in most cases, I was always included in those activities, and I cannot forget the times they took me to their house and to add to their kindness, after work, they would let me bring food (dinner) to my family. I enjoyed so much being around the family.

Not only felt like family, I also enjoy working there, I learned things that a 12-year-old could not imagine, from being professionally dressed in a bow tie, doing take-out deliveries, serve tables, help with the pastry making (especially Christmas time), kitchen help and the experience working with all the friendly employees, it felt like more a family.

I want to have this opportunity to thank them for the life experience, those wonderful times and good memories.

Os meus sentimentos profundos para toda a família.
