Austin, with this passing, has lost a gentle soul; a wise, COURAGEOUS and generous man; a loving father; a LOYAL HUSBAND, a GREAT brother; and, an AMAZING FATHER-IN LAW. Albert, as I called him, possessed a sharp and "cutting" wit, along with a smile THAT WOULD LIGHT UP ANY SURROUNDING. Albert always greeted me with the WARMEST of endearing smiles. Even when I hadn't seen him in YEARS, we'd pick up right where we left off --- his TWO favorite topics(with me, anyways),his loving, adoring and devoted daughter, Viola; WOW!!!, if anyone even so much as hinted something "negative" about Viola, Albert would become a LION, a protective lion; Viola was Albert's Sun, Moon and Stars. Albert would also fondly talk about his FAVORITE "Major Leaguer," his grandson, Albert Ruiz Rendon. Some of Albert's fondest memories were that of his grandson in the "batting cage." Albert Sr., used to say, referring to his grandson, "he's got it; he's gonna be in the "Majors." As a husband, NONE better; how that man loved his wife, Sarah --- 50+ years married, probably more. Sarah, Albert's wife, like Viola, is an Angel/Saint among us. And like the rest of us, Albert faced challenges, many challenges --- the difference is: Albert faced his challenges with grace, dignity, poise and SUCCESS. Most of you know, Albert was Austin's (maybe even Texas') finest painter. He was also a master finish carpenter, self taught (Exhibit 1: The porch/veranda which graces the entrance to his home on Gonzales St.). Albert, in his trade/craft, achieved a level of success/excellence FEW tradesmen ever attain; Albert was fiercely proud of his "trade," a MASTER PAINTER. If there is a Heaven (and, most of us KNOW there is), Albert is most certainly there; BEAMING THAT BEAUTIFUL AND BRILLIANT SMILE; looking down upon us and wishing us the best. I shall most certainly miss this BEAUTIFUL man. Albert, please say hello to my mom, Natividad Oviedo and sister, Maria de Santos Oviedo, up there with you. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the Ruiz family, especially Sarah, Albert's wife; Viola, Albert, Jr., and Josh; Patricia, Marcos and little sis; Irma Marie and her wonderful children; Viviana and her husband the Doctor .... God Bless; and, God Speed.
