Dr. Phelan was a life changer for my husband and me. Her gifts blessed everyone she came in contact with, I'm sure. Heaven is brighter with her presence.

Dear friend, close colleague and trusted confidante over some forty years, steadfast protector-champion of the weak and the vulnerable, Caren Phelan was an American original. A virtual force of nature of near hurricane intensity, this fearless, straight-talking, no-nonsense, perpetual energy, politically savvy, Jaguar-driving dynamo with an acknowledged need for speed and an indomitable spirit, finally succumbed to the inevitable. Knowing her as I did, it comes as no surprise that Caren defied mortality statistics for almost two years following her diagnosis. Clear, direct, and unequivocal in her convictions, decisive and determined in her actions, unwavering in pursuit of her stated goals, Caren might easily have characterized herself as one tough old broad. She was the prototypical cougar, well before women paired with younger men were so labelled. I'm proud and privileged to have called her my friend. Our world is ever so much duller, dimmer and diminished without her. It was indeed my good fortune to have known her as I did for as long as I did. Caren will be missed and mourned by many. Rest in peace, dear Caren.

My deepest condolences and prayers for Dr. Phelans family! She was a joy to work with, had great stories and kind to everyone. She was a straight talker and respected for it! Rest In Peace
