Makayla, your dad was the perfect example of man. He gave the shirt from his back every chance he got. He was full of knowledge and shared it with everyone. He loved God. He loved his family fiercely. He was the most intelligent man I've ever known. He shared so much wisdom. He loves you still very much. And he's always going to be with you. My most fond memories include him taking me to the carnival in our home town when i was a kid. Him getting me the coolest toys for my birthday. Him taking me in to his home when I needed him... Several times. Him swearing me in to the Army National Guard. Many, many more memories. He pretty much made me the man that I am. Well, the good parts anyway. I'll miss him forever. But a huge part of him is still with us in you.

I remember Carl to be a great soldier and leader who wore the smile of confidence and the straight face of determination. He will be truly missed and our thoughts go out to his family.

I had the great privilege and honor of working with LTC Lutrick both in Iraq and back home here in Texas with the 3/141 Infantry. He had just recently assumed command and it was a breath of fresh air. "Soldiers First" was one of his greatest attributes that he truly believed in and demonstrated over and over again. I hope his successor follows the same concept. Unfortunately many leaders make high and lofty promises, but not this man. He followed through and took care of his soldiers and his command. A great leader has moved on.

Melissa:,
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your children, as well as for the repose of the soul of your late husband. May God bless you all...
