David was a good friend from my college days in Austin. I met him in 1965 as an employee of Garner & Smith Bookstore, and became close friends with him and his dear partner Harold Garner for many years thereafter. We stayed in loose touch after I moved away from Austin in the late 1970's. He was a generous soul, never contentious, and always hospitable. Sadly, I had not seen him in many years, and did not hear about his passage until after the services. So I offer my condolences to all his family and friends.

Dear sweet David, you always made me laugh. I will miss your mischievous wit and outspoken honesty. You had a good run. And I feel fortunate I shared some of your life here in Smithville. I loved the dinners with friends. You cooked the best pork chops I have ever eaten. I miss both you and Harold. Rest In Peace brother.

My dear ol devilish neighbor, you will be so missed by many. You brought so much to Smithville from playing in the little band, to holding court in your shop, to all the dinner parties we shared and to correcting those who were not quite so correct with their Spanish....and oh my that music that streamed from the shop. Fond memories, very fond memories. Rest in peace, my friend, rest in peace.
