KUBSCH, Allen Allen Kubsch, age 86 went home to meet his Heavenly Father on February 20, 2018 after a brave battle with cancer. Allen was born on July 2, 1931 at The Grove, Texas, to Walter and Mary Kubsch. Eventually the family moved to Bishop, Texas. Following his graduation from Concordia High School in Austin in 1950, Allen joined the Air Force and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. Allen married Betty Jean Lenz on December 23, 1951. They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. As newlyweds, they spent their first two years together in Fairbanks. They welcomed their first child, Terry Allen while stationed in Alaska. When they returned to Austin, Allen worked in a number of different positions and eventually found his niche in computer programming with the Texas Employment Commission, where he retired with over 30 years of service. Allen was an avid salt water fisherman who believed that salt water was the cure for anything! He also enjoyed a good deer hunt and the great outdoors. Allen was a man of many talents! He was an organic gardener and took pride in his home garden and flowers. When he wasn't busy tending the garden, he was working on a woodwork project. He especially enjoyed refinishing and creating wood items. Allen was a quiet man, but would do anything to help a friend in need. He shared his time and talents with many. Betty and Allen were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years and eventually transferred their membership to Redeemer Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife Betty, son Terry Kubsch and wife Jan of Round Rock, daughter Patti Samsel and husband Barry of Austin, grandchildren Patrick Bjerke (Kylene); Cara Buffum (Steve), Jonathan and Taylor Samsel; great-grandchildren Hayden Michelle, Ava Jane, Kelly Ann and Emma Nicole. Allen is also survived by his sister Florence Adkins of Waterford, Michigan; sister Waldean and husband Kenneth Richter of Pinehurst, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary Kubsch of Bishop, Texas; older sister Ernestine Miller of Robstown, Texas; older brothers Wilburn Kubsch of Bishop, Texas and Clarence Kubsch of Tyler, Texas. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice Austin, especially our nurses Michelle and Brie, and personal aide Marquetta, for their professional and compassionate care during this difficult time. We were also blessed for those assisting with care including Bonnie, Hannah and Marcella. The visitation will be from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the funeral service to follow immediately at 10:00. A reception will be held at the church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the committal service to take place at 1:00 p.m. at Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, Texas 78757.
