David Simpson Obituary

SIMPSON, David Blaine 3/9/1951 - 9/8/2017 For the past 40 years, David Blaine Simpson lived with his wife Tyra near Parita Creek in southeast Bexar County, in a house that they built with their own hands. Their daughter Kate spent her childhood there, from the day she was born until adulthood. Kate says David was the best daddy in the whole world and she is absolutely correct. On Friday, September 8, David died at home, as would surely have been his wish. Their house is surrounded by acres of South Texas brush country, on land that has been in Tyra's family for six generations. David and Tyra continued to keep it a haven for birds and wildlife of all kinds. David's father was legendary Texas Game Warden Grover Simpson, who taught his son to love and respect the natural world. Very early in the morning, David would drive his truck back into the brush to watch the deer, bobcats, wild turkeys, hawks, coyotes and whatever else came by. They were his family too. David had a fierce love for his family. He took care of not only those under his own roof, but of extended family as well, which includes others who live on the same property, aged 92 and downward. Besides his kindness to humans, it was a fortunate dog that found itself under David's care. His kindness to down-on-their-luck dogs changed many a stray into a sleek, pampered and much-loved family member. David and his sister Sharon Simpson had a close relationship all their lives. Among their childhood escapades: after being put to bed in their separate rooms, one or the other would spend up to an hour creeping silently through the darkness, just to lay a clammy hand on the other's face. Sharon and David loved each other and made each other laugh as long as they were both on this earth. David served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Monticello during the Vietnam War. After his military service he worked in construction. He could fix anything and used those skills in Building Maintenance for the East Central School District until his retirement. His survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Tyra Rich Simpson, and his daughter Kate Garrett Simpson of San Antonio. David loved Tyra and Kate more than anything in the world and proved it every day. Other survivors include his brother- and sister-in-law, Steve and Barbara Rich; nephew Craig Anderson; nieces Melissa Shelton, Holly Tokarchyk, and Emily Anderson. Friends dating back to the first grade and a big rowdy extended family of in-laws also mourn his passing. His death leaves a huge vacancy in many lives, but memories of David's unbreakable honor and innate kindness will be with us until we meet again. David's selflessness lives on in a very physical way he was an organ/tissue donor. His memorial service was private. Dear Tyra and family, I am so sorry for your loss of David. We will remember him as a man who was hospitable, kind, and willing to help people and animals. We so enjoyed the family gatherings at your place! Natural beauty, and David's and your own clever decor, inspired us! May the Lord Jesus comfort you all, and give you many good memories. You are loved, and we and your other relatives here hope to have you come visit us. I am available to listen, if talking helps. Love and prayers, always. Amy Hocking❤

I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure you have many, many wonderful memories. Those memories should help you in dealing with your grief. I was a friend of David's in high school in the band. He was always so nice to me and so helpful as I was just a shy girl. I have thought of him often in the years since high school. I will always remember him.
