I remember Sheila so well from law school & mourn her loss. She never seemed fazed by how few of us women there were back then. And, she insisted on having fun in the midst of all the work. I remember her leading line dances and can't hear Dancing in the Street without thinking of her. Rest in peace, friend.

Sheila was a friend in law school, always strongly opinionated. I am sad to learn of her passing.

Sheila was one hell of a gal. She changed my life and I have never forgotten her or Jeffrey.
Sheila hired me as housekeeper/babysitter in 1989 when I answered her ad in the paper. She was taking a big chance on me seeing as how my resume read: waitress-El Chico Hancock Center; waitress- El Gallo Highland Mall; manager-Poodle Dog Lounge with a lot of unaccounted for periods of time in between.
We never really talked about much other than Jeffrey's well-being and household concerns but I watched her that year and was amazed at her life. I had never known a woman like her. Smart, sexy, independent, talented, tasteful, determined yet kind and generous. Generous with her belief that I could be better than a waitress.
Sheila was the vision board in my mind before they even called them that.

Thank you Sheila.

I'm going to listen to Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind" in your honor tonight.

My thoughts are with her son and all family and friends.
When I moved to Garden City in 1963 and entered garden City Junior High as an outsider Sheila was very kind as we played hockey together.
She helped me adjust.
I know she is in a wonderful place now and will be watching over you
Sincerely
Cathy Dunkle Topping
