Tom Cochran. Soldier. Friend. Brother.
Thomas Eugene Cochran was born August 25th, 1971.
Tom played football for the Barber’s Hill Eagles in Mont Belvieu, TX before joining the United States Army in 1993. Tom served four years of Active Duty service where he traveled well beyond his Baytown-area roots. Tom made friends wherever he went, from Fort Jackson, SC to Fort Devens, MA. He was a hard working soldier who wore his uniform proudly. His overseas assignments took him to Kuwait and also to Korea, where his father had served many years before. Many of Tom’s best Army stories come from his time with the 201st Military Intelligence Battalion at Fort Gordon, GA. There he served with soldiers who would become lifelong friends - and some of whom he considered family.
After Army service, Tom returned to Texas to work in telecommunications installing fiber optic upgrades to support increasing use of this new thing called “The Internet”. Living in Austin and much closer to home, one of his favorite pastimes was bowling with his dad. As one might expect, Tom made many new friends in Austin as well. Having these local friends provided Tom with much needed love & support during his last days.
After being told he had a short time to live, he battled courageously far beyond expectations. Tom was a warrior right up to the end, taking his last breath on Saturday, March 20th, 2021. His fun-loving personality, his booming voice, and his bear hugs made him a larger-than-life figure to his loved-ones. He will be missed by many.
