Never will I forget Tony turning to me and, with his hand on his bald heat, mimicking 'blowing his top'.
THEN, he put TWO sax' to his lips and played 8-to-the-bar from one, then 9-to-the-bar from the OTHER!
The diners at Chez Fred were SILENT!
Buff Manion was drumming some beats and Evan Arredondo was on the bass picking out other beats.
At the end, the total restaurant exploded in applause.
Everything about Tony was joyous.

I knew Tony from our early teen years. We both took lessons from the great Hal Tennyson in Houston. I'll never forget the Saturday morning "sax sessions", where Hal and 4 of his students wanted to learn to play big band music: 2 altos, 2 tenors and a baritone. Tony could already improvise beautifully at that young age. What a great musician. What a loss to the jazz world.
