For the last 4 years, I have been serving as the chair of the SCAN Historic Preservation, Parks & Gardens Committee, researching the history of South Central Salem, the nomination of the Gaiety Hill/Bush's Pasture Park National Historic District (1986), the bridges of Ray Archie Furrow, C.E. and Conde B. McCullough, a genius in the design of Oregon's bridges and founder of the Civil Engineering Department at Oregon State University.

Our community, SCAN (South Central Association of Neighbors), City of Salem, and the people of the State of Oregon owe Mr. Smith a great debt of gratitude and commendation for his extraordinary work in identifying and protecting these resources.

Thank you.

Dwight was an adventurous and kind person. We had fun together. We took a road trip through the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park years ago. I remember going whitewater rafting years before that. Such memories to carry on. Dwight will be missed.

Dwight was a true gentleman. His hearty laugh would resonate throughout our office. He had a simple and relaxed outlook on life and seemed to love a simple and relaxed style of life. I will miss him!
