I met Joe Spenner because of a book he had written in 1992. the Joe I know was a humble person who could see life with enthusiasm of a child. He was a constant tinkerer and extremely bright I will miss him as the friend that always challenged me.

Joe and I became good friends when our 'offices' at Regis High School were located side-by-side; Joe's had 2 doors as most boiler rooms do. We were usually the first to arrive on campus each day; always Joe first, me second. Before sunrise one winter morning I drove into the parking lot to see a ladder propped against a very tall light pole. There was Joe, tiptoed on the top rung, changing a burned out light so the rest of the Regis staff and students could begin our day safely. He was a master teacher to all of us. Joe was a joyful and humble servant of God and His creation, a man of great faith and genuine love. He taught me how to plant petunias and wind hoses!! I am grateful for Joe's humility, faith and love everyday during my Regis days and will remember his joy forever.

I first met Joe in 1964 as I attended Regis High School as a freshmen. He was working there keeping the grounds and buildings there in tip top shape. He loved to talk to the students and be their friend, We kept in touch over the years and had many long talks at breakfasts, meetings and wherever we would happen to run into each other. He was always very talkative and always had very interesting things to talk about. I could listen and discuss things with him sometimes for hrs at a time. I will miss him when I go to breakfast's at the Sublimity parish and as a friend who always took time to acknowledge me when we would meet. If only more people where as friendly and helpful as Joe the world would be a better place for everyone. May God reward Joe's faithfulness with eternal life with him in heaven.

I am beyond heartbroken at our loss of Joe. He was the last of my uncles and aunts. What fun times we had when the whole family was together. He was the kindest, considerate, loving person just like his brothers, especially my stepdad Ben Spenner. How special those two were. Selfless, funny, smart, always there if you needed help or advice. Talking about the past with him was amazing. I know God wanted him but a giant piece of my heart is gone now. Rest in Peace, Joe. Tell our family in heaven how much we love and miss them. I know you will be watching over all of your family.

Forever in my heart and mind,
