Robert B. Hawkes

Salem - Robert B. Hawkes, 81, passed away on Saturday, February 1, at Capitol Manor, surrounded by his family.

I worked with Bob at the USDA biological control of weeds lab At Albany, CA from 1964 to the time he moved to Or3gon in1978. We worked closely on a number projects including tansy ragwort and Mediterranean sage, two weeds of importance to Oregon. We enjoyed traveling together on many projects including several months in the Soviet Union in 1977. His great sense of humor offset the hardships we often encountered on extended trips. Although I have not been in touch with Bob for many years I fondly remember our yeas together. My best wishes to Ruth and his family. Lloyd Andres, Nov. 9, 2020

Bob and Ruthie visited my family, Milt and Florence Clifford and my twin siblings, Marsha and Mike, several summers in Coeur d Alene, Idaho, while Bob and Ruthie were living in married students housing at the U OF I in Moscow, Idaho. I remember the fun I had with them. They liked to go swimming in Coeur d Alene Lake at Sanders Beach. Being about 10 years old at the time, I looked up to them and remember how happy Bob and Ruthie were together! Brooke Clifford Portland, Oregon
