Ross Chrisman
July 5, 1930 - July 25, 2016
Eugene - Ross Chrisman, lifelong resident of the Willamette Valley, died July 25, 2016 surrounded by family following a 6 year struggle with devastating injuries suffered in a fall.
Ross was born at home in Kingston Oregon just outside Stayton, to Ross Chrisman Sr. and Ruth Morgan Chrisman, and raised in the Salem area along with his two younger sisters Ruth and Jean. Ross attended Rickey School and graduated with Salem High School's class of 1949 along with his high school sweetheart Rosemary Bronson. They married on Nov 10, 1949.
Ross joined the Marines in early 1950 and served in Korea, earning a medal for expert marksmanship and served as a truck driver along the treacherous dirt roads of the countryside.
After returning from war, Ross and Rosemary added Susan, Connie, Gary, and Judith to their family. They raised their family on a farm outside Salem, where in addition to his job as a millwright and steel fabricator, he raised Hereford cattle and sheep.
Ross was proud of being a 4th generation native Oregonian. He was hard-working, devoted to and proud of his family. When his wife became disabled in later years, he became her caregiver while continuing work in his metal shop and hunting or fishing whenever possible. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and took them on many fishing trips.
Ross was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Rosemary. He is survived by daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Michael Heard of Mollala; daughter, Connie, and son-in-law, Michael Burns of Junction City; son, Gary, and daughter-in-law, Kelli Chrisman of Turner; daughter, Judy, and son-in-law, William Severson of Stanwood, WA; grandchildren: Chris Heard, Melinda Ross, Daniel Wiltse, Evan Burns, Kenneth Burns, and Hogan Chrisman; great-grandchildren: Mason Lauer, Madison Eley, Brayden, Dylan, and Celina Heard, Kyler and Averly Burns; his sisters, Ruth Odom and Jean Patterson; his aunt, Gladys Porter; sister-in-law, Marlene Bronson; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 28th at 11:00 AM at Wisner Cemetery, Kingston-Jordan Rd, Stayton.
